Benefits of Roller Recovery

When most people think of recycling, they imagine tossing aluminum cans, glass bottles, and paper products into a bin for collection. While these actions are essential, the concept of recycling extends far beyond the familiar blue bin. Effective recycling also encompasses the reduction of waste streams and the innovative reuse of high-value components through refurbishment. Motion specializes in this advanced approach to recycling, helping our customers significantly reduce waste heading to landfills.

One key way we contribute to waste reduction needs is by refurbishing expensive rollers and wheels. These components, crucial in various industries such as steel processing, printing, and pulp and paper handling, often face wear and tear that necessitates their replacement. However, rather than discarding these valuable parts, we offer a sustainable and cost-effective solution: recoating them with new polyurethane materials.

The Refurbishment Process

Our refurbishment process begins with carefully removing the old polyurethane or rubber from the roller’s core. This initial step is crucial as it ensures that any worn-out material is stripped away, leaving a clean surface ready for the next stages. Once the old material is removed, our technicians meticulously clean the old adhesives from the metal core. This essential cleaning process ensures that the new adhesives can form a robust bond with the metal.

Following the cleaning, the metal core undergoes preparation with new adhesives. This step is critical because the strength and durability of the refurbished roller or wheel depend heavily on the adhesive bond’s quality. Our fabricators use specialized adhesives and preparation techniques to ensure an exceptionally strong bond between the polyurethane and the metal. This strong bond is vital for extending the life of the most expensive part of the roller or wheel: the metal core.

Once the metal core is prepared, we cast brand-new polyurethane onto it. This new layer of polyurethane can be machined to exacting tolerances after casting, allowing it to meet the specific demands of various industries. Whether for steel processing, printing, or pulp and paper handling, our refurbished rollers and wheels perform as effectively as new ones, if not better.

Why Choose Refurbishment?

Opting for refurbishment over replacement offers numerous benefits. Firstly, it significantly reduces the amount of waste in landfills. By reusing the metal core and simply recoating it with new polyurethane, we can save a substantial amount of material from being discarded. This helps the environment and reduces the demand for new raw materials, conserving natural resources.

Secondly, refurbishment is cost-effective. The metal core of rollers and wheels is often the most expensive part. By extending its life through refurbishment, companies can save a lot of money compared to purchasing entirely new components. Additionally, the downtime associated with replacing parts can be minimized, leading to increased operational efficiency.

Lastly, refurbished components are of high quality. Our meticulous process ensures that the refurbished rollers and wheels meet stringent industry standards. Using high-quality adhesives and polyurethane materials guarantees that the refurbished parts are durable and reliable, providing excellent performance in demanding applications.
